Abstract

Introduction: Nipah virus (NiV) is a type of RNA virus, a member of the family Paramyxoviridae, genus Henipavirus and is related to Hendra virus that infects horses. It is a zoonotic virus which requires direct contact with an infected source for the spread .The natural host of the virus are fruit bats of the Pteropodidae Family. The objective of study are: To estimate the knowledge regarding Nipah virus infection among adults after giving information booklet, to determine the effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding Nipah virus infection among adults after giving information booklet And to identify the association between knowledge regarding Nipah virus infection among adults and selected demographic variables. Material and Methods: In present study, researcher adopted Quantitative Approach with True experimental design. It was carried out on 200 samples Effectiveness of information booklet on knowledge regarding Nipah virus infection among adults in selected urban slum was assessed by structured knowledge questionnaires with 30 items. The correct answered is scored ‘1’ and wrong answered scored ‘0’. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Result Knowledge regarding NIPAH virus infection before intervention of information booklet among adults in control group is majority 97% are having poor knowledge, 3% having Average knowledge whereas experimental group shows majority 96% are having poor knowledge, 2% having Average iv knowledge and 2% having Good knowledge. Significant change was observed in knowledge level as evident from the calculated’ control group posttest mean value 9.64 drastically increase after intervention of information booklet to experimental group post-test mean value 22.5 with t value of 44.20 and p value is 0.00001 that is less than 0.05. That is shows that information booklet was effective method to increase knowledge. Conclusion: A study may be conducted to assess the effect of implementation of nursing care at the hospital set up, Educational intervention can be used to assess the knowledge among large group of samples and in large setting.
