Main Article Content
Abstract
The tablet is the most popular of all the dosage forms available today because of its convenience of self-administration, compactness, and easy manufacturing; however, the immediate onset of action is required more often than conventional therapy. To overcome these drawbacks, immediate release pharmaceutical dosage form has emerged as alternative oral dosage forms. Thus, the disintegration time, which in turn, enhances the drug dissolution rate. Rapid disintegration may be due to rapid uptake of water from the medium, swelling, and burst effect, thus promoting bioavailability. Tablet formulations are generally preferred due to their low cost of manufacture, packaging, shipment, and increased stability. Among various dosage forms used for oral drug delivery, tablets are one of the most successful and marketable drug delivery regimens as it provides several advantages over other forms of dosage forms. This article provides an exhaustive account illustrating the significances of super disintegrants in the immediate release of tablets and the disintegration mechanism along with various conventional techniques and novel granulation technology used to prepare immediate-release tablets.
