Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the awareness of Reconstructive surgery among dental professionals in India


INTRODUCTION:


Dentists play a critical role in the management of oral cancer, from the detection of premalignant lesions, early detection of oral cancer, biopsy ,management of the oral cancer patient by resection  and reconstruction of the lost segment of head and neck region where microvascular surgery comes into play. Reconstruction using loops and microscopes has been a boon in oncology and in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Much advancement has arrived in reconstruction surgery, one of such is microvascular anastomosis, where donor artery is sutured with recipient artery after tumor resection in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Yet many dentists are not aware of these wider specialities, by not pursuing further degrees and are doomed to be in clinic based set up.Therefore this study is aimed to check awareness about reconstructive surgery among dental professionals in India.


MATERIALS AND METHODS:


This study was conducted among dental professionals. The study was conducted in an online portal and  567 participants including general dentists and various other department post graduates of India participated in this study. The questionnaire included 20 questions which assessed the knowledge, attitude , and practice among dental professionals and various departments of post graduates regarding Reconstructive surgery.
