Abstract

A new series of benzoxazole containing β-Lactam compounds (3a-3j) were synthesized and characterized through spectroscopic and elemental analysis viz.IR, 1H NMR,13C NMR techniques. Compound (3a-3j) was evaluated for their antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. The antioxidant potential of synthesized compounds (3a-3j) was ascertained by DPPH scavenging test. Among all the synthesized compound 3d and 3j showed greater antioxidant activity due to presence of electron donating group. For antimicrobial activity three gram positive organism (S.aureus, S.mutans, B.coagulants), one gram negative organism (E.Coli.), and one fungal strain (Candida albicans) have been employed, Ciprofloxacin & Fluconazole were used as reference standard. Furthermore, molecular docking study was performed against DNA gyrase enzyme that governing the activity and establish a link between the observed antimicrobial activity and the binding affinity.
