Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of high intensity interval training and inspiratorymuscletrainer with concurrent training to improve pulmonary function among overweight youngadults. MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY: 30 Overweight young adults aged 18 to23wereselected through random sampling and assigned into two groups. Each groups consists of 15subjects. Group A done high intensity interval training and inspiratory muscle training. GroupB done done high intensity interval training with resisted exercise. OUTCOME MEASURES: Forced vital capacity, Forced expiratory volume in one secondand maximum voluntary ventilation measures was taken using spirometer. RESULTS: Statistical analysis are done using paired 't' test which showed significantimprovement in forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second and maximumvoluntary ventilation in both group A and B. The unpaired 't' test for mean post test valueofGroup A was more significant (p<0.05) in improvement of forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second and maximum voluntary ventilation than the meanpost testvalue of Group B. CONCLUSION: In this study both group A and group B shows significant improvement inforced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second and maximumvoluntaryventilation. But compared to Group B (high intensity interval training with resistedexercise)Group A ( high intensity interval training with inspiratory muscle training) showed significantimprovement in forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in one second and maximumvoluntary ventilation among overweight young adults
