Study of Drug Prescribing Practices and Rationality on Health Services in Karawang City

Abstract

The use of drugs is rational if the patient receives the drug according to his needs, for an adequate period of time and at the lowest price for the patient and the community. The impact of irrational prescribing patterns felt by the government in terms of financing drug needs. Drug costs are the largest budget of the health budget. Based on the background, the research was conducted on prescription and rationality of drug use in health facilities in Karawang. This observational retrospective study was conducted at a Health Facility in Karawang by taking primary data in the form of prescriptions for 1 year from January 2020 - January 2021 which were analyzed using WHO prescribing indicators. The result show that prescription of generic and essential drug is lower than WHO standard, antibiotic is higher than WHO standard, and injection preparation is fall within the range.
