Abstract
The antibacterial activity of Padina boergesenii Allender & Kraft extracts against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Streptococcus mutans, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella paratyphi, Proteus vulgaris and Klebsiella pneumoniea were evaluated. Different solvent extracts like ethanol, chloroform, diethyl ether, ethyl acetate, acetic acid, aqueous extract was used for the study. The extracts exhibited high antibacterial activity against tested pathogens. Significant activity was recorded against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the results also indicated that most of the solvent extracts when tested against pathogens showed inhibitory activity.
